Oh yeah, I said it....
Part I
Oh where to start, there are so many things out there in the world to change, things that I'm not even aware of.
I would like to see more equality. It's sad when to this very day people get teased for their color or ethnicity. Just the other day a neighbor was explaining how she still gets teased from being of Asian decent. It's also sad when there are younger children who have more respect and understanding that most adults.
I would also like to see less bullying, there have to many increasing rates of suicides, children wanting to commit suicide. Let's stop and think about that for a minute...children, as young as 10 years old to 25 years old wanting to commit suicide and kill themselves because of something someone says to them on a daily basis. So again think about that, let that creep into your mind for a minute. "900,000 youth planned their suicides during an episode of major depression." (http://teensuicidestatistics.com/statistics-facts.html) So some may say oh wow that's a lot, no it's more than that...that's, count them...1, 2, 3, 4, 5...see where I'm going. Once you count it out it's a little more than 'a lot'. It's 900,000 too many in my opinion.
I would like to see less poverty, less AIDS. For some these problems seem like a side project but for others it's reality. There are children who are as young as 8-10 years old taking care of their younger brothers and sisters on the streets in other countries, most notably in Africa but of course in other countries. I know we all put more specificity, more interest towards Africa, but it's all over.
Part II
A way we could solve the problem for equality is to really start instilling in our children and others respect and love. Or at least tolerance. I'm big on respect, it's important to have and give respect. My mom taught me and my brother and sister when we were very young, "If you respect even the smallest insect and creature, you'll love and respect the biggest." Children and even teens and adults, learn from others. We feed on what others do and say, whether we agree with them or not, we can't help but take it in.
For the bullying, same scenario. But also bullies tend to, well bully, others because either that happened to them at an earlier stage or even because their home life isn't that great, or even because they lost someone, a death of a friend or loved one and they don't know how else to get that aggression or anger or sadness out. No one's telling them how to do so, they just get punished not asked why they're bullying, not why they're behaving like that; just instant punishment. We need to delve into the problem more and find out why, it's not just the victims of these attacks, in a way the bullies could be victims to something else. There are two sides, we normally tend to look at one side and see nothing else.
As for AIDS we need to not only donate when we can, but also spread awareness. Maybe you don't have the money to donate that's alright, you can at least spread the word and do what you can. It's not just about the money it's also about the caring and concern.
Some people just want to know someone else cares and is thinking about them. And that goes for different situations.
Part III
When it comes to bullying and suicides I try to reach out to people. A big place to bully is the internet, cyber bullying. I was on tumblr.com, a blogging site and there was this girl, teenage girl who left a suicide note on her page. People kept re-blogging (or re-posting) her note spreading it around and leaving messages on her site telling her to not give up. I was one of the people who saw this post and thought "You know what, I'm going to leave a long letter to her" and I did. I prayed all night that she wasn't going to do that, praying that it wasn't too late. I explained in the letter basically, that there were others that care about her, look at how many people are re-blogging and sending letters, other people in her life her family and friends. I explained people care sometimes, unfortunately they show it ways that aren't that clear to us. Point of the matter is, she chose not to commit suicide. She made that decision because she saw others cared. So you see, positivity and kind words can spread as easily as hate and negativity. And prayer and faith doesn't hurt either.
Something I would like to do because I feel we don't think enough of ourselves and others. What I mean is we're so down on ourselves and others that it takes the beauty out the world, the art around us. I want to take a picture frame and go to a city, maybe San Francisco or someplace and with written consent, ask people randomly to hold the frame and I take a photograph of them and tell them they're a work of art. Who doesn't like a compliment every now and then. Even take a video of them explaining or saying a word or two of positivity. Even as simple as "Peace and Love...Imagine" I am a big John Lennon fan and I love what he stood for. Something as simple as peace.
“You are all geniuses, and you are all beautiful. You don’t need anyone to tell you who you are. You are what you are. Get out there and get peace, think peace, live peace, and breathe peace, and you’ll get it as soon as you like” ~John Lennon
For AIDS I became "dead" for World HIV/AIDS. It was a challenge to not go on Twitter or Facebook until $1,000,000 was raised. I took further and didn't go online and I donated to charity, hoping to make some sort of difference, my mom participated with me and my did as well. It was great because I wasn't dependent on technology or anything else. But we succeeded.
I have written songs about certain experiences I have had and I love singing, so music is another way to spread awareness, passion, love, respect, even getting anger out of your system. Hey it does work.
Finally we reach Part IV
I have been transformed by the fact that I have been enlightened by people I meet, talk to, listen to, or even watch. I have been transformed by hearing others stories and sharing my own with bullying, I think a majority of us have been bullied in some sense, it's just how to get through it and get that positive and acceptance stage. I believe my life has been changed for the better because instead of being naive about certain things, being more knowledgeable about these things has made me a better person. It has made me become more insightful. And I wouldn't take anything back, regret nothing. I don't see why others feel they can only feel better by putting others down, but I say enough is enough and grow up.
Life's too short, we all have a story so make it good. It doesn't have to be wise and intelligent, it just has to be interesting and compelling, I think. At least at some points.
We're all unique and different, and that I think is a gift.
May I just say (as if I haven't said enough) one of my favorite things to do when I'm at a concert or a play...is that I love that feeling that you don't care if the person next to you is gay, straight, transgender, black or white. It doesn't matter, you don't care. And why because you are all enjoying the performer, the concert, the music, whatever it is. That's the only thing that matters, that's something you all have in common and that's the best part. We're all artists, so let's create.
Thank you for reading this novel that is my suggestion. I would be greatly appreciative if I did win the scholarship money, but you know, that doesn't even matter anymore. I at least said what was needed to be said, so....oh yeah I said it.
Thank you
Chelsea
